The S'Avall salt pans are located in the urban center of Colònia de Sant Jordi and take their name from the old property where they were located. A place where the geographical and climatic conditions are ideal for the production of salt that allow the evaporation of water naturally, allowing the exploitation of this resource since ancient times.

The total surface of the pond is around ten hectares, “its shape being somewhat irregular, taking advantage of the natural cavity of the land in which channels were dug within the sandstone itself and the ponds were subdivided with walls made of the same material. For the movement of the waters from one pond to another, to clean them, fill them, etc… they used waterwheels in the past, later a mill was used that still survives and is used, together with an old hydraulic wheel, to evacuate the mother liquor ”. Its extraction is still carried out, with traditional methods, during the month of August. They constitute a fragile and valuable protected ecosystem, forming a key part of the natural area.
